
Sun Chenghao
OXGS Fellow
SUN Chenghao is a fellow, associate professor, and head of U.S.-Europe program at Center for International Security and Strategy (CISS), Tsinghua University. Professor Sun’s research interests include U.S. domestic and foreign policy, China-U.S. relations, transatlantic relations, AI and International security, etc. He is the author of hundreds of policy reports and dozens of academic journal articles. His latest books include Profound Changes Unseen in a Century and the U.S.-Europe Alliance was published in 2023, and The Gravity of Power in the White House: The National Security Council (1947-2019) in 2020. His work has also been published in The Chinese Journal of American Studies, China International Studies, International Forum, Northeast Asia Forum, among others. He teaches a graduate-level course on Transatlantic Relations in the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University.
Related activities
Professor Sun is a Council Member of the Chinese Association of American Studies and the Founder of ChinAffairsplus, a platform dedicated to disseminating the views of Chinese scholars and enhance the understanding of China’s foreign policy among overseas strategic professionals. He was also a Visiting Scholar at Yale Law School’s Paul Tsai China Center during 2024 fall.
Professor Sun has been actively engaged in high-level international dialogues, including multiple rounds of China-U.S. and China-EU discussions on artificial intelligence. In 2025, he was selected as a Munich Young Leader by the Munich Security Conference and attended the annual conference.
Research
Professor Sun’s research focuses on U.S. foreign policy, U.S.-China relations, transatlantic relations, and the intersection of artificial intelligence and national security. He has published dozens of academic articles in Chinese leading journals, covering topics such as the evolution of U.S. alliances, NATO’s strategic shifts, digital infrastructure cooperation, and the implications of AI in geopolitics.
